I saw dragons and I immediately knew I needed this book like I need air in my lungs. I really enjoyed this book and it’s exactly what I look for when I’m looking for things to read.
I really liked Elowen and Cayden, they had very good banter (which seems to be kind of rare these days) and they made sense together. I appreciated that the author was consistently saying (from Elowen’s POV) that even though she wanted to pull away from him, she couldn’t, instead of her actually doing it and needlessly lengthening the plot for nothing.
There was something missing in this book for me that stopped me from really being obsessed over it like I most recently was for Quicksilver. I think it may partially be that it feels like the characters aren’t fully developed individually before they’re in love but I honestly am not sure. I think I liked the characters together and knew nothing about them apart. One thing I do want to note related to this is that I feel like we know a lot about Elowen’s childhood and very little about Cayden’s.
There was a kinky, gory, evil streak that I honestly was very intrigued with in this book. Both of the MCs matched each other’s energy regarding this and I really appreciated it as it brought an aspect of dark romance into this book that I really wasn’t expecting. I’m really hoping the dragons can speak to her in the next book in the series as I would find that so interesting to hear their different voices in her head. It was a pretty trope-y book with some unique elements. And there were a lot of lines, especially that Cayden said that I found were very artfully and beautifully written.
This book for me was just missing a certain spark that makes me giggle and kick my feet and really LOVE a book.
