The Other Woman Review

Rating: 8.5/10

For People Who Like: Murder Mystery, Romance, Fantasy, Plot Twists, Betrayal

Introduction:

So Racheal Perez actually sent me this book and I would like to thank for that because this book is absolutely amazing.

Rating Explanation/Review:

This book was… unbelievably incredible. I didn’t think I was a big fan of murder mysteries but I think this book might just be the gateway that gets me into them. When I started this book, I was thinking “Oh, this is going to be really predictable, this person is going to end up with this person but this person is going to be jealous…” so on and so forth. I could NOT HAVE BEEN MORE WRONG. There are so many twists and turns in this book, but I never lost track of what was going on (which is something that I loved about this book), that was probably because the whole main cast is around 10 that you really have to pay attention to.

Now onto some less positive things. One thing that I didn’t like about this book was when we found out who the murderer was. I was that surprised or upset when I found out who it was. I don’t think there were enough scenes of the murderer doing normal things in the story. Or it would’ve been nice if we’d seen the murderer interacting with the victims before they died. If I’m being completely honest, there were so many different plots in this book, I didn’t lose track of what was happening, but sometimes it felt like I had missed a scene or two or there was just some missing information. Off the top of my head I can count at least 6 different arcs in this book. It would be nice if they all fit together somehow in future books like if the plots each influence another plot.

Alicia... was an interesting character. You might be wondering why she gets her own paragraph. Can I just say, her character development (notice I didn’t say growth) is very...abrupt. I NEED some explanation about what happened with her. I feel like I know what happened, but I also don’t know what happened and it's a weird and confusing feeling so PLEASE give some explanation in the next book. Alicia’s feelings confused me and I could never tell if she was actually feeling things or she was just manipulating people into doing what she wanted them to do. Which is on brand with her character but it left me feeling a little confused.

As I mentioned, there are A LOT of plots in this book and some of those plots were magic/fantasy based. On one of these arcs, there wasn’t any explaining of how it happened or why it happened so...that was disappointing. On another plot...it was also really disappointing because they reference it at the end of the book but the curse never affects anything in their relation- wait… as I’m writing this like 3 hours after I finished this book, I just realized that the premonition came true. You (the author) might want to say something more about that because I literally just realized that that’s what happened at the end of the story.

I LOVED the emphasis on eyes in 2/6 of the story lines I mentioned. I am a sucker for emotions seen through people’s eyes. The romance was fun to watch, it was pretty short though because all of the other plots in the book kept getting the way and then...well….you’ll see when you read the book. It’s quite messy. Overall, this book was a really fun read and I love the emphasis on grief and heartache and betrayal in this book. When you read this book, be prepared for all of the plot twists, I wasn’t and this book took me on one wild ride.
